Timeless standards: Interior design shaped by three generations of experience ?
In the narrow lanes of the municipal market, a family-run shop spanning three generations was on the brink of transformation. With the third generation stepping into the business, the family collectively aspired to renovate an old godown space. The first meeting with the clients included representatives from all three generations, each sharing their vision for upgrading the shop without demolishing the existing structure and adding an extra floor within the 4.8m height limit imposed by municipal rules..

The shop caters to local customers seeking everyday wear, and the renovation aimed to modernize the space while maintaining its inviting and unpretentious atmosphere. The redesign focused on enhancing modes of transaction, display, billing, and interaction, all within a warm and subtle ambiance that encourages locals to step in without hesitation.
The charm of the old shop lay in its approachable vibe, never creating an impression of being overly expensive. To preserve this, a palette of oak and fresh shades was chosen to unify the abundant colors. The material choices took a back seat to the established design standards, craftsmanship, and practical workability honed from their previous shops.
This transition was a learning journey for our studio as well. We gained a deeper understanding of the enduring customer-seller relationships that develop over generations in villages and towns—bonds that go beyond commerce to a layer of trust. The design features a fluid plan with clear circulation around a central island, allowing visual access throughout the shop. This creates a simplified flow and spaces for customers and their families to enjoy a relaxed shopping experience.
